Service Description

Join artist Em Campbell for a outdoor watercolor experience in the heart of Old Town Annapolis where you'll learn how to paint “in the wild.” This 90min session is designed for all skill levels—from complete beginners to painters looking to loosen up and try painting outdoors. Working in a small group, Em will guide you through the essentials of painting on location. You’ll learn how to choose a subject, simplify a scene, and capture the feeling of a place without getting overwhelmed by detail. Along the way you'll explore practical skills that make outdoor painting easier and more enjoyable. Topics include: • simple outdoor watercolor setup and supplies • choosing a paintable subject • basic composition • working with a limited palette • adapting to changing light • keeping your painting loose and efficient Participants will create a small urban landscape painting during the workshop and leave with the confidence to continue painting outdoors on their own. No previous art experience needed - everyone begins with a pre-sketched subject already on the paper so they can jump right into painting. A professional-grade traveler's watercolor kit is available for purchase at registration, thoughtfully stocked with everything you need to paint anywhere. Space is limited to keep the group small and allow for personal guidance. This is an outdoor experience, so please plan for all weather, as well as bring a chair or cushion for comfort during your painting sessions.
